Biocompatible Artificial Leather for Medical and Healthcare Applications

Tested upholstery materials for medical examination tables, therapy, care and other applications involving direct body contact – durable, hygienic and developed for professional use.

01 / BIOCOMPATIBILITY

Materials for sensitive and heavily used areas.

Biocompatible artificial leather is used wherever people regularly come into direct contact with an upholstered surface. For healthcare applications, durability and appearance are not the only important factors. Biological compatibility, ease of cleaning and resistance to suitable disinfectants are particularly important.

Selected AKV materials have been tested in accordance with relevant parts of DIN EN ISO 10993. These include tests for in-vitro cytotoxicity and, depending on the product, irritation and sensitisation. The technical specifications and test results are stated transparently for each material.

Suitability must always be assessed on the basis of the specific application and the product-specific test documentation. For medical devices, an additional assessment of the complete finished product may be required.
